SELF PORTRAIT, 2023
“Amidst any kind of destructive experience that disrupts the natural flow of life, the source of strength to rise again lies within us. This source, a mystery even to the person themselves, becomes apparent only when we dare to gather the scattered pieces of our mind or soul and accept the new state of the whole.”
Embodied with this fundamental premise, “Self-Portrait” is a work that invites the viewer to recognize the will to understand and transform one’s own “self.”
Self-Portrait is a project that bears witness to and accompanies my recent personal history. It is a wordless expression of the concept of “migration,” which has been a reality of my life over the past year. It focuses on the idea that fragmentation does not necessarily result in dissolution, highlighting new possibilities and their potential positive outcomes. It reminds individuals of the willpower they may underestimate or fail to realize. It calls on them to resist and challenge the chaos that follows destruction or fragmentation.
It acknowledges and accepts the pain, wear and tear, damage, loss, and sorrow inherent in life, yet still points to hope, possibilities, and the capacity to exist not in a new but in a different way.
